67th Annual Southern Hardwood Forest Research Group Meeting

The 67th Southern Hardwood Forest Research Group annual meeting will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021 online via Microsoft Teams. The program starts at 8:00 a.m. Central and concludes by 4:00 p.m. Central. There is no registration fee.
This year’s program theme will focus on Hardwood Markets. Presentations addressing the theme will be made by Ms. Lorna Christie, CEO, National Hardwood Lumber Association, Memphis, TN; Dr. Laura DeWald, Forest Genetics Research Specialist, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Kentucky, Lexington; and Mr. Marc Measells, Extension Associate III, Mississippi State University, Starkville. In addition, Dr. Steve Meadows, Dr. Tracy Hawkins, and Dr. Ted Leininger, with the Forest Service, Center for Bottomland Hardwoods Research, will report on their current research projects.
Following a lunch break, Mr. Frank Howell, Exec. VP of Delta Council will share his insights into the outlook for research support from the 117th Congress, and Dr. Tom Schuler, National Program Leader for Silviculture Research, Washington, DC will talk about initiatives in silviculture and forest management research supporting shared stewardship. The meeting will conclude with a summary of Fiscal Year 2019 and Fiscal Year 2020 research accomplishments at the CBHR, presented by the Project Leader, Dr. Ted Leininger.
We are seeking approval for Continuing Forestry Education credits in the amount of 5.5 contact hours in Category 1-CF. Copies of the CFE contact hour notice will be made available upon request. Anyone seeking CFE credits must enter their full name upon joining the meeting and attend all 5.5 hours of the virtual meeting.
Our tenth annual Dr. John Adams Student Poster Competition is open to any currently enrolled undergraduate, M.S., or Ph.D. student working on original research that investigates some aspect of southern hardwood forestry. Competition guidelines and an entry form are available at the following link: http://www.deltacouncil.org/southernhardwood.html. Submissions must be received by midnight Monday, February 15, 2021. Limit of one entry per student. Each student who submits a poster must sign up for a 10-minute time slot in one of two poster sessions during which they will present a summary of their poster.
