Rooted in Research Webinar Series - Ecohydrology Modeling in Central Hardwoods

May 4, 2022

11:00 AM Eastern / 10:00 AM Central

The Northern Research Station’s Rooted in Research webinar series brings experts together to discuss the latest science with a land management application. May’s webinar will feature:

Eco-hydrology modeling in the Central Hardwoods – soil moisture, vegetation, fire, and climate change

Presented by: Antoine Randolph, Eco-hydrology and watershed modeler, Canaan Valley Institute; Ben Rau, Research Hydrologist, Northern Research Station; and Matt Dickinson, Research Ecologist, Northern Research Station

Eco-hydrology modeling focuses on the feedbacks between soil, water, and vegetation and, with enough realism built in, can be used to look backward and forward in time. With climate change, the field of eco-hydrology takes on a new urgency. Join us to explore the multitude of ways that eco-hydrology modeling intersects with forest, land, and water management. We will introduce a new project that will explore eco-hydrology and fire under the influence of climate change across a climatic gradient from the Appalachians to the Wichita Mountains. This work is particularly relevant to the Region 9 Southern Tier Oak Restoration Initiative (Wayne, Hoosier, Shawnee, and Mark Twain National Forests) and the surrounding area.
