The woody biomass resource of Alabama, 1990
Abstract
Data from the 1990 Alabama forest survey were used to derive fresh and dry biomass estimates for all trees, on timberland, greater than 1.0 inch in diameter at breast height (d.b.h.). there are 579.8 million fresh tons in softwood species and 998.5 million fresh tons in hardwood species. Most of this biomass is in the stem portion of the trees--93 percent for softwoods and 76 percent for hardwoods. Nonindustrial private landowners hold 65 and 77 percent of the total softwood and hardwood biomass resource, respectively.
