Informally Refereed

Abstract

In 1999, industrial roundwood output from Louisiana's forests totaled 802 million cubic feet, 28 percent more than in 1996. Mill byproducts generated from primary manufacturers increased 50 percent to 285 million cubic feet. Almost all plant residues were used primarily for fuel and fiber products. Pulpwood was the leading roundwood product at 349 million cubic feet; saw logs ranked second at 269 million cubic feet; veneer logs were third at 148 million cubic feet. The number of primary processing plants decreased from 92 in 1996 to 57 in 1999. Total receipts increased 29 percent to 890 million cubic feet.
