Advances in modeling sivicultural treatments in loblolly pine stands

Informally Refereed

Abstract

Accurate prediction of stand growth and yield requires a thorough understanding of the effects that various silvicultural treatments have on stand structure and development. Tree improvement, thinning, site preparation and fertilization have been shown to change the shape and/or level of growth curves. Therefore, modeling success can be best achieved where emphasis is placed on the effect of those treatments on the basic relationships underlying stand growth and development and validation against long-term data.
