In this peer reviewed article, we discuss how the ecosystem services of green spaces are linked to disparities in obesity, cardiovascular health, heat-related illness, and psychological wellness as it relates to race, ethnicity, and income. Decades of research has encouraged us to study nature's influence on health from a multidisciplinary perspective. In this article, we cross disciplinary boundaries by merging recent literature from areas such as public health, urban ecology, outdoor recreation, sociology, and sustainability science. By integrating the benefits of greenspaces such as parks and urban forests with an array of health outcomes - we not only stimulate awareness on the importance of greenspaces to community health but we also support our agency's mission of caring for the land and serving all people.
